Cathy Lisa Schneider is Associate Professor at American University School of International Service. In spring 2017, she taught a course on Democratic Decay and Authoritarianism in the West, which she is teaching again in spring 2018. She is the author of Police Power and Race Riots: Urban Unrest in Paris and New York (Philadelphia: University of Pennsylvania Press, 2014, pbk 2017), Shantytown Protest in Pinochet’s Chile (Philadelphia: Temple University Press, 1995) and co-editor of Collective Violence, Contentious Politics and Social Change: A Charles Tilly Reader with Ernesto Castaneda (New York: Routledge, 2017). She has published a variety of articles on military and police repression, social movements, riots and racial and ethnic discrimination in Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
